Halfmoon Bay Trail Head

Trail: Dirt path, boardwalk sections, many steep stairs.
Trail Distance: 1.7km one way, about 40 minutes.

The path down to Halfmoon Bay begins as the Willowbrae Trail which used to be part of a sea to land route that linked Tofino and Ucluelet before the road was built in 1942. After about half an hour on the flat dirt trail the path forks into two. To the right a steep stairway leads down to South Florencia, and to the left a dirt path continues on to Halfmoon Bay. This trail continues on for about 10 minutes through uneven dirt (sometimes mudd), boardwalk, and some steep stairs that lead down to the sheltered bay. This is a very beautiful small sandy beach. It is generally not very crowded and has a great view of Florencia Bay. Be cautious, however, the halfmoon section of this trail is easily flooded and can be very muddy after a hard rain, gumboots are always a good idea.

Getting there: From Ucluelet you follow the main highway out of town for roughly 5km until you get to Willowbrae Road (left side). Follow the short dirt road up to the small parking lot for the trail.

Parking: The parking area is very small and does not accommodate buses, campers, or RV's. Be sure to purchase a parking pass in advance as you cannot buy a ticket here, they can be bought at the visitors center.

No camping or fires
